ABOUTSANCTUARY

The Sanctuary of Saint John Paul II the Great in Cracow, the White Seas is a unique place where pilgrims from all over the world find peace and quiet, pray in the spirit of the Saint’s teaching, inspired by the testimony of His life.
This tower was erected on 11 June 2011 and consecrated on 16 October 2016 in the presence of the Polish Episcopate represented by Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz.

The sanctuary consists of the Lower Church put into use by the faithful in June 2011 and the Upper Church blessed by the priest cardinal on 23 June 2013. In the centre part of the Lower Church there is the Chapel of Relics, in the middle of which, in the altar, there are relics of St. John Paul II. The Chapel of Relics is surrounded by two rings of chapels: related to the Virgin Mary cult of John Paul II, dedicated to the Saints, the Priest Chapel with the reliquary of the blood of the Polish Pope placed on the slab from the tomb of the Holy Father from the Vatican Grottoes of St. Peter Basilica in Rome, the Chapel of the Heart of Jesus – an adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, the Chapel of Reconciliation and the tomb crypt, where the cardinals of blessed memory: A.M. Deskur and St. Nagy rest in the sarcophaguses.

The Upper Church delights with the richness of a theological content, fallen into the sacred art, which are fully represented by the mosaics made under the direction of Fr. Marko Ivan Rupnik SJ in the “Centro Aletti” in Rome. In the Upper Church, the faithful stop by the cassock of John Paul II, marked with the blood of the Saint from the attempt on his life on 13 May 1981.
